[FURUSATO GUJO TV] Hazagake
We will introduce several videos one by one that Gujo City, Gifu Prefecture, where is located to next to Ono City, Fukui Prefecure, created. The first one is "Hazagake". It is also called
"Hasagake" in Fukui Prefecture. It is a good old landscape in countryside, but now it became very rare to see.
Hazagake is a way to dry harvested rice under the sun. Haza is an equipment, a rack made of wooden poles. In this way, the moisture is slowly removed out of the rice. Until 1970s, hazagake had been a very common way everywhere in Japan. But now most farmers use machines to reap rice, to bind and dry them.
Doing hazagake creates much more delicious rice than one through by machine. However, it is a lot of work and it requires much time, so hazagake is not often seen today. Still, it sure is one of the original Japanese sceneries.
Beautiful hazagake in straight rows. Now it is a valuable scenery.
