The Oldest Samurai House in Fukui

There is a very old house designated as a national important cultural asset in the mountain area of Sakai City, Fukui Prefecture.
This is called "Senko-No-Ie", and is one of the oldest existing private houses in Japan. The topknot on the top of the roof shows that it was a samurai's house.
The remarkable thatched roof has withstood heavy snow in winter, also it has a function to beat the heat in summer. The beautiful curve and the depth can be said that the architecture of powerful local clan's has remained.
