Life in Fukui

This is the train model 880 of Fukui Railway.
The other day, I introduced new and retro model of trains.
This is the design of a typical box-type train.
I think this is also one of interesting design.

Random thoughts

When I visited the Fukui Prefectural Museum of Ceramics in Echizen City last Sunday again after long years, I was surprised to know that Echizen (the ancient name of Fukui ) also had a history of producing white porcelain.

Fukui is known for earthenware named Echizen-Yaki,

which is made of brown-colored iron-rich clay and has a long history.

However, I've never heared of porcelain made here.

Cats in Fukui "Yawn"

2015.05.12

Cats

I went to a Zen temple in Echizen City, which has become popular as a cat temple
because it was featured on a national TV show lately.
The parking space was full and many visitors enjoyed looking the cats or taking photos.
But the cats don’t care and play always freely.
And a cat couldn’t stop yawning in such pleasant weather.
I have heard that a yawn is primitive reactive behavior for animals.

Production notes

We visited the Echizen Pottery Village in Fukui prefecture for shooting the lecture.
I was watching the video while waiting in Fukui Pottery Museum located in the village.
I thought the image quality was not so good. There was a comment near the monitor.
This is the video in around 1973.
I felt the nostalgia in the analog video. Also, I thought the struggle of the potter at the time.

Azalea flavored soft-serve ice cream in Michi-no-eki Nishiyama Park, Sabae City

2015.05.08

Gourmet

Above is the "Tsutsuji Soft" I ate yesterday.

"Tsutsuji" is azalea, so it means "azalea flavored" here, and the "Soft" means soft-serve ice cream in Japan.

Tsutsuji Soft is a popular product of Michi-no-eki Nishiyama Park in Sabae City.

"Michi-no-eki" means roadside station which works as a traffic information center and a rest area, and it has become very popular in Japan these years.

Though it was hot as if the summer had already come yesterday, the Tsutsuji Soft was very good because it had rather light taste like Italian gelato.

Nishiyama Park is well known for a lot of azalea flowers, and by the director of the Michi-no-eki, the flowers will bloom fully in a few days and be best viewed within a week or more.
