When I visited the Fukui Prefectural Museum of Ceramics in Echizen City last Sunday again after long years, I was surprised to know that Echizen (the ancient name of Fukui ) also had a history of producing white porcelain.

Fukui is known for earthenware named Echizen-Yaki,

which is made of brown-colored iron-rich clay and has a long history.

However, I've never heared of porcelain made here.
