Autumn Festival

I went to help the annual autumn festival in my town.
Men carry the portable shrine to visit each house
and women make a lot of rice balls from early morning.
If a baby was born, it visits the shrine with its mother to be a parishioner of it.
But people say that fewer children are being born here these days.
It used to be a lively festival with many children. (H.S)

“Chihayafuru” (Animated TV show associated with Fukui)

Last week, Awara City in Fukui Prefecture was heating up with the animation event.
Some popular voice actors appeared on a talk show.
The 2000 tickets were sold out within two minutes.
Awara City is kind of a holy city for the fans of the animation.
I heard that the voice actors spoke Fukui dialect in their lines
as with vibrato at each end of words.
Also they enjoyed Fukui’s famous local sake “Kokuryu” and the hot spring in Awara as well :) (H.S)

Mikuni is a retro-flavored port town in Fukui Prefecture.
Mikuni Festival and Fireworks are well-known.
Also, “Obi no Machi-nagashi” held yesterday is getting popular.
It’s an event that hundreds of people go dancing through the old streets
along to a local folk song with shamisens and Japanese flutes.
Anyone can join if they apply in advance. (H.S)

Sen no kaze ni natte ( I am a Thousand Winds)

An event called "Ohori no akari (lights in the moat) " which is for repose of the victims killed in air raids in WW2 was held on July 18th around the Fukui Castle ruins.
Here is the scenery from that event with the famous song "Sen no kaze ni natte (I am a Thousand Winds) " sung by a male choir "Golden Age Fukui" in the ceremony of candle lighting.
