The First Cat Festival in Fukui City

2016.05.12

Cats

A first unique event was held in the area near Fukui Station during
Golden Week(consecutive holidays Apr. 29th to May 8th this year).
It was memorable "The First Cat Festival in Fukui City”!!
At the same time, a new commercial building opened in front of Fukui Station
but I ignored the crowds and cheerfully headed off to the “Cat Festival”.
The festival site is separated into several places and yellow banners saying
“Cat Festival” are the marks of the site.

First, I went to “Photo exhibition of beloved cats” which you can choose your favorite cat
by vote to select first prize.
Well, every cat looks so cute! I felt the owners’ deep affection.
I also went to another photo exhibition of cats by a professional photographer.
And there were workshops that to make cat’s small article.
At a department store, they put a cat’s goods section
and even sold “Breads with a cat face”.
So it was an attractive festival for cat lovers.

They are planning to hold the second festival this autumn at the earliest.
I think that such an original idea and a festival by the hands of people of shopping street
makes a town more lively. (H.S)

Cats in Fukui “At an animal hospital”

2016.03.22

Cats

I sometimes take my cats to an animal hospital.
Although they are still young and have much energy,
occasionally they get sick.
So I think that I need to observe carefully their appetite, meow,
hair and excrement every day.
And if I feel that there is something different,
I try to take it to the animal hospital as soon as I can.

Reception at the animal hospital. The tile painting of dogs and cats will welcome you.

On the exam table, my female cat Miiko looks docile.
The vet said to me that I should try to lose her weight.

By the way, I saw information on a bulletin board in the animal hospital.
It said that dogs and cats in Fukui Prefecture were long-lived,
actually they live the longest in Japan. (in 2011)
I thought that many owners in Fukui are keeping pets properly and taking care of them.
I am proud of Fukui Prefecture for that. (H.S)

Cats in Fukui “Before and After”

2016.02.13

Cats

I think it has been almost three years : two kittens were abandoned in my neighborhood.
One was male and orange tabby, the other was female and tortoiseshell.
If I contact public health center, they will be taken and killed soon or later.
I wish I could take them but I had a cat already.
So I called my mother to ask to take them, and she said “Okay. I can keep them.
They are siblings, so don’t separate them. Bring both together.”
Since then, my mother’s hectic days of cat-sitting had begun for her
whom lived alone quietly until then.

【Before】 This is when the orange tabby had been abandoned.
If you are stared at with such little eyes…?

【After】 Now he grew so big like this.
He always eats much and weighs 6.6 kgs!!
But his character is gentle and friendly, also he never bites or scratches. (H.S)

Hiroshima Cat Street View

2015.12.17

Cats

“Hiroshima Cat Street View” is the world’s first street view through cats' eyes,
which you can explore Hiroshima’s backstreets just like a cat.
Hiroshima Prefecture has started this project in September
and has received a great response from both inside and outside Japan.
How do you see the view of the town through a cat’s eyes?
It would be nice to feel like you are a cat for a couple of minutes.
At any rate, I think that this idea by Hiroshima Prefecture
and the lovely video are very impressive.
I hope Fukui Prefecture too, will do its best!! (H.S)

Foster parents of two kittens have been decided!!

2015.12.07

Cats

On November 29th, 2015, at the dogs and cats adoption charity held by Fukui saving dogs and cats team, two kittens which are siblings, a male and a female were adopted by foster parents who seem like kind ones.

Not everyone can become foster parents. Ages, family structures and so on must be qualified to be ones. They do not move the cats from their original cages to the ones which foster parents brought with them.  This is to avoid the situation that the cats run away and become lost, so they bring the cats to their foster parents’ cars and move them to their new homes inside the cars.  It is their consideration for the cats not to be in horrible situations ever again.

The staff who had been taking care of the cats seems to be happy, but at the same time she looks like she misses them. I am sure that the kittens which seem to be interested in everything will be getting comfortable soon.
