Invitation to string octet

I went to a concert of string ensemble at Fukui Prefectural Concert Hall.
It was planned by four string players from Fukui, and they invited
Japan String Quartet (JSQ), which was representative string quartet in Japan,
for joint performance.

The members of JSQ includes Yoko Kubo, who is an internationally acclaimed
violinist and Junji Suganuma, who was a first desk of violist in NHK orchestra.
All the members remain in classic music history after the war in Japan.
And it seems that the four players from Fukui reaped big reward that they couldn’t learn
by private lessons.

In the concert, the string quartet by the four players from Fukui played and then the string octet played harmoniously by all the members. The members of JSQ are elderly
but they showed us that however old you become, you can continue music activity
and you even become skillful.

A violinist of JSQ dropped the score and they restarted.
In an encore, they played the piece again, saying “The score was dropped
and we will play again the piece.”
That was classy, calm, elegant and so nice.

I had not been familiar with string but I felt coming of spring by the tones of
string. And it was like gentle breeze blowing across the field and luxurious time with
the beautiful clear tones.

In fact, Fukui Prefecture promotes artistic education and they found string clubs
in designated elementary school. The player who planned this concert teach the students.
It is such wonderful environment, isn’t it? A teacher of one of the schools came to the concert, and she said “It is pretty good that we can hear sound of string after school.”
That’s for sure, and it’s elegant, isn’t it? (H.S)

King Crimson - 21st Century Schizoid Man

As you may know that this is the song by King Crimson. Takefu Commercial High School Wind Band played the song with contrabass duet for the 37th Tannan District Wind Band Ensemble Contest held at Imadate Art Hall in Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture on January 14th, 2017.

It was very cool!

Japanglish with Cinderella!

We just released the video of "Cinderella with Fukui dialect" on GEN’s website (only in Japanese for now).

There are many stories of Cinderella written by many authors all over the world.

And there are also many stories which are similar to the Cinderella.

In Japan, Charles Perrault, the French poet’s Cinderella is the most well-known one.

The story is called “Cendrillon” in French, which means a person/thing covered in cinders.

And of course, it's "Cinderella" in English.

Have you ever watched and/or read Cinderella

in any other language but in your first language?

Today, I would like to introduce Japanglish version of Cinderella.

I’m going to share the video of Biligirl Chika’s “English with Disney’s Cindrella!” [#349]
Please enjoy!!

People who pave the way

We just released the video of Masaaki Kimura on our GEN's website,

performing Michael Hedges’s “Ritual Dance", in a music cheering group

”Jonetsu Gundan" (Passionate Group)'s music live show at Bhutan Museum

on February 28th, 2016.

Kimura is a deaf player, and even though I heard that he plays his own special guitar,

still I can never imagine how he can play it without hearing.

Kimura has learned to play the guitar mostly on his own.

Because Michael Hedges has also been as known as an unique musician for his original style,

I thought that Kimura picked the right piece.

They both have paved the way.

I see the strength from Kimura’s gentle smile.

Okinawan Diva

Okinawa has been called as “Island of Entertainment” since a long time ago and
still today it produces many musicians and actors.
What comes to your mind when you think of Okinawan diva?
For example, Rimi Natsukawa, Namie Amuro, Kiroro, SPEED etc.,
there are so many great female singers but my recent heart-throb one is Tomoko Uehara.
She is the only woman and the vocalist of “Rinken Band” which is the band representing Okinawa. Also, she is the band’s leader Rinken Teruya’s wife.
Her voice is so clear as if it is from above, and is filled with divinity.
Here is a video of her singing an Okinawan folk song “Takoyama”.(1'28")

By the way, Gori of Garage Sale(Japanese comedy group) is Rinken’s nephew and
Kurara Chibana(reporter) is also his relative.
Also, his father Rinsuke Teruya was a great person, called by a nickname of “Terurin”
among people in Okinawa and exerted a great influence on the entertainment in Okinawa after the war. (H.S)
