The World's Oldest Jazz Band from Japan

I visited a Jazz concert in Kanazawa the other day.

There were guest players playing there and it was great.

It is not the band I saw that day, but did you know

that there is world’s oldest jazz band in Japan listed in Guiness World Records?

The name of the band is “Golden Senior Trio” which has 3 jazz musicians in it

and the average age is 83 years and 19 days as of 5 July 2015.
So they are about 84 by now!!

I want to be active and delightful when I will be their age!

I would like to share the video of “Guinness World Records”. Please enjoy!

Salsa Dancer, Kaku/Salsa Lab Part-5 -Dancing salsa is good for mental health?!-

Dancing salsa increases one's happiness and it is definitely beneficial for health as well.

From my own experience, dancing salsa helped to cure my cold in one day.

It has been proven scientifically that music helps ones’ mind.

Salsa music is from South America where there is sunshine,

beautiful nature and most of the residents are happy.

Salsa music can lift up peoples’ moods and make them happier

and more optimistic as well.

In many South American households, when people gather around, they dance salsa.

In conclusion, dancing salsa is simply enjoyable,

easy to start even if you've never danced before

and beneficial for both physical and mental health.

Without comparing, no matter how you move, just enjoy every moment

because everyone’s style of dancing is correct.

There is no such thing as a wrong salsa dance.

Play with the rhythm and express yourself.

This is salsa dance.

Salsa Dancer, Kaku/Salsa Lab Part-4 -Don't Need a Partner and Benefitial for Your Beauty-

Dancing in pairs is always enjoyable.

But I'm sure that there are some people don't feel comfortable with dancing in pairs.

You do not have to dance in pairs if you don’t feel comfortable.

Moreover, salsa is beneficial for staying in shape.

I know a woman who lost 10 kilogram (about 22 pounds) from regularly dancing salsa.

Salsa Dancer, Kaku/Salsa Lab Part-3 -Anyone can get used to dancing salsa right away-

As I have been introducing about Salsa,

today, I would like to tell you about how it is easy to start salsa dance.

Just like the USA, Australia, the UK, Korea and any other countries,

for some people, dancing is not that easy and/or it is not comfortable to do,

the same for Japanese people as well.

Some people just avoid dancing because they don't know how to dance, and feel embarrassed

about not dancing in certain ways with "perfect steps and moves".

I experienced almost every kinds of dance.

Speaking from my experience, starting salsa dance is much easier than other types of dance

(hip hop, jazz, ballet and everything between) in terms of being able to just enjoy it.

Also, salsa lessons are easier to attend to than other types of dance

because there are so many salsa lessons all over Japan

and there are people of all ages who take these lessons.

Just walk with music, it can be the basic steps for salsa dance.

Most people start to enjoy dancing salsa after 3 dance lessons and/or attending salsa parties.

One must practice very hard to perform in front of audience though.

You do not have to wear fancy dresses to dance salsa.

You can just wear T-shirts and pants.

It is very casual.

Dancing salsa is not difficult at all.

It gives less stress for your body than dancing other types of dance and/or playing sports.

How about dancing salsa with your friends and/or family members?

Salsa Dancer, Kaku/Salsa Lab Part-2 -Anyone can enjoy salsa easily in Japan!-

In our previous blog, I have introduced

the Japanese salsa dancer, Kaku and the salsa dance studio, Salsa Lab.

In Japan, dance and music from foreign countries are very popular and familiar with

many people. To enjoy these in Japan, there are many places where you can go to.

Although Japanese traditional dance and music are special, popular and familiar with

many people as well, there are much fewer places to enjoy the traditional ones and

more rare to see them than places for foreign dance and music.

In a usual life, it is more common to see people playing guitars or bass than people

playing "Shamisen". Shamisen is Japanese traditional instrument with three strings

played like a guitar.

Unless you work or live in places related to Japanese traditional music and/or dance,

in your everyday life, you are more likely to see people dancing hip-hop, jazz and

everything between types of dance originated from foreign cultures than people

wearing Kimono and dancing traditional Japanese dance.

Is it only me? On TV, I see more bands in which people play rock, pop and /or alternative music than Japanese imperial court music bands.

In Japan, on weekends and/or anytime when people just want to go out for a bit

to enjoy dancing or listening to music, there are dance studios, clubs, live music clubs,

rock festivals, bars, Karaoke and everything between.

Salsa is one of them, you can easily enjoy it.

Today, I would like to introduce some basic knowledge about salsa.

The origin of “Salsa dance” begun in Cuba and it went to Puerto Rico.

And then, it went to New York City and Los Angeles in USA

and became what is known as the salsa dance we know these days.

Mainly, there are “NY (New York) style salsa” and “LA (Los Angeles) style salsa”.

Some of you many think dancing salsa is difficult. Actually, it is not.

Salsa is easy and enjoyable for anyone regardless of age or gender.

You do not need so much muscle strength

or to learn complicated steps to enjoy salsa dancing.
