Sweet and sour pork with black vinegar sauce at a Chinese resutaurant "Fukui-Gen"

2019.09.03

Gourmet

Although it feels much cooler than a few weeks ago, the temperature during the daytime often rises around 30 degrees Celsius. Obviously it's still summer. I feel like eating this sweet and sour pork with black vinegar sauce for lunch even when it's hot and I have no appetite.

Unlike ordinary sweet and sour pork, the ingredient is only pork. The restaurant seems to be run by a Chinese family. Honestly, I am not sure whether it is Sichuan or Beijing style. But anyway, I like the taste and always eat it from their dozen of set meal menus.

The restaurant is always busy and smoking is allowing at lunchtime as well, so sometimes smoke comes from tables close by. This is the only problem for me but I have to accept it, so I try to think that I had some bad luck on such a day and have a patience with it. But even thinking of it, I like the unpretentious atmosphere, the inexpensive and delicious dishes of the restaurant.

Cold noodles topped with steamed chicken and sesame sauce at a Chinese restaurant "Fukui Gen"

Yesterday I went to the Chinese restaurant "Fukui Gen" , which I often go for lunch. I chose this cold noodles because I didn't feel like eating something hot on such an extremely hot day with temperature over 35 degrees Celsius.

Althogh it was topped with only a small amount of vegetables, I love the style featuring the main ingredient with almost no extra decorations in the same way as other menus of the restaurant. Ice was put under the noodles.

They also serve ordinary "Chilled Chinese noodles." But I prefer the one above. It is forecasted that hot days will continue for the time being, so I will likely go to eat it again soon.

Curry and rice imitating Kouchigawa Dam

2019.08.01

Gourmet

Finally, the rainy season was over, so I went to the Kouchigawa Dam to take a video with a camera and a drone.

The Kouchigawa Dam was completed only just this year near Kumagawa-juku in Wakasa Town, Fukui Prefecture. While the main facilities of the dam itself have been completed, other facilities around it, such as the place located just below the dam body to see the downstream, are still under construction. So the sound of heavy machineries was echoing with the sound of the water and buzz of cicadas.

I got an interest in a banner saying "Kouchigawa Dam Curry", which I found while shooting, and I ate it at the hotel "Refreste Yamabiko" located by the dam lake.

In Japanese restaurants, it has become popular to serve curry and rice that imitates a dam for more than 10 years, which is called "dam curry". According to the website of the Japan Dam Curry Association, this Kouchigawa Dam Curry was made as its 176th.

This curry is characterized by not only spices but also by a herbal flavor. A lot of home grown watercress are used. I thought green curry was a good idea for dam curry.

Kumagawa-juku's character "Kumakawa-san" mimicked "Attack on Titan". It's the manhole cover at the top of the dam.

Soy sauce pork cutlet rice bowl of "Shimomura" in Ono City, Fukui Prefecture

2019.06.11

Now I'm involved in a drone school that is taking place in Rokuroshi highlands in Ono City, and I have more opportunities to eat in the city. And so I ate "Soy sauce pork cutlet rice bowl" for the first time, which recently came to be known as a new local food of Ono City.

There seems to be some variations depending on a restaurant. The "Shimomura" is its birthplace, so probably their style is standard.

They serve the rice bowl with shredded cabbage under the pork cutlet, grated radish, chopped green onion and green perilla as toppings. Separately soy sauce is served in a small bowl and customers can add it according to taste.

It was delicious than I expected and I began to often eat it when I go to Ono. However, I don't like the texture of shredded cabbage on rice, so if there were no cabbage, I would be so much happier.

Western-style cooked mackerel in a stylish can

2019.05.21

Gourmet

I liked the canned mackerel that was on the dining table of my home the other day.
Apparently, my wife bought it for me who doesn't like fish .

It is a product of Iwate Prefecture, which is sold by a company named "Produced in Iwate Prefecture".
According to their website, the first product of the series was released six years ago.

The groundbreaking product was produced in hope of revival of the the marine products industry in Tohoku region which was devastated by the earthquake of 2011.
Knowing that, I come to think that the product name using French "Ca va?" ( How are you?) is also excellent. In fact, mackerel (saba) in Japanese sounds similar to the "ca va".

I immediately ordered the assortment of the entire series of the canned "Ca va?".
