A Fukui's tradtional food, "Suko"

2015.10.14

Gourmet

When I visited “Senko no ie” in Takeda district in Fukui prefecture a little while ago, a traditional Fukui food called “Suko” was served.  It is a preserved food which the stem of a taro called Akazuiki harvested from summer to autumn and pickled in vinegar.  This is a Fukui traditional food. This food that my grandmother used to cook it with the ingredient from her farm, the crisp texture, sweet and sour taste has been one of my favorite foods since I was a child. T.S

An-punch

2015.06.05

Gourmet

I've been to "Fukui-no-megumi-haku" ( Blessing from Fukui Fair ) at lunch break,

and bought a cup of "An-punch" there,

a combination of whippy ice cream made of only vegetal ingredients such as soy milk and soy bean powder, and some soft azuki-bean jelly called "Mizu-yokan" cut in dice shapes.

It tasted good!

It was moderately sweet and I also enjoyed the natural flavor of beans.

Azalea flavored soft-serve ice cream in Michi-no-eki Nishiyama Park, Sabae City

2015.05.08

Gourmet

Above is the "Tsutsuji Soft" I ate yesterday.

"Tsutsuji" is azalea, so it means "azalea flavored" here, and the "Soft" means soft-serve ice cream in Japan.

Tsutsuji Soft is a popular product of Michi-no-eki Nishiyama Park in Sabae City.

"Michi-no-eki" means roadside station which works as a traffic information center and a rest area, and it has become very popular in Japan these years.

Though it was hot as if the summer had already come yesterday, the Tsutsuji Soft was very good because it had rather light taste like Italian gelato.

Nishiyama Park is well known for a lot of azalea flowers, and by the director of the Michi-no-eki, the flowers will bloom fully in a few days and be best viewed within a week or more.
