New Year’s party

2018.01.28

Gourmet

I went to an annual New Year’s party with friends.
We always hold the party at a Japanese restaurant where a friend used to help there.

The entrance

Shochu bottles are lined up on the counter.

We usually reserve an inner Japanese room.
I saw Daruma on a hanging scroll, which made me motivated this year, too.

The sake “junmai daiginjo” is made in Yoshida Sake Brewery in Eiheiji Town, Fukui Prefecture.

Some of what we had.

We also celebrated a friend’s birthday in January, so another friend brought a hand decorated cake. This is actually a macrobiotic cake, which made with tofu, soy milk, canola oil, flour, orange and almond slices. The cake was moist and so good. (H.S)

Bamboche de Yama, a lovely restaurant in the center of Fukui City

2018.01.17

Gourmet

On the night of heavy snow, I went to a restaurant "Bamboche de Yama", which is in the center of Fukui city but a bit far from the center of downtown. It is a small bistro with 4 or 5 tables.

I ordered a course of dishes to share, 5,000 yen per person for dishes. Of course, you can choose an ordinary full-course style. First I ordered glasses of Sherry, then Burgundy and Rhone red wine in half bottles. When I want to consult about a drink, it is good that the distance to the shop people is close. We enjoyed our meal calmly.

It was also a point for me that they asked whether there are any foods I can't eat when booking.
I thought that I would like to come again.

It is a meat dish, but since the vegetables on the side were beautiful, I took a photo from this direction...

The appearance of the restaurant that I took this morning. It is a house built next to a big building.

Opposite the restaurant, there is the Mouth of Truth on the wall of Fukui Palace Hotel.

Recommendation of izakaya in Fukui City “Rogumi”

2018.01.05

Gourmet

Late last year, I went to an izakaya where my friend recommended me.
The izakaya, Rogumi (Fukui-ekimae shop), opened last spring.

It’s a new shop, so the inside is very clean.
I had a 4,000 yen Kagaribi course and 1,500 yen all-you-can-drink option.
They also have many other delicious-looking menus, so I would like to order each dish
next time.

Among the all-you-can-drink menus, there was a fruit liquor called “Ranmei-chu”.
I thought it was like a “Shinru-chu” from China but I didn’t know what kind of liquor it was.
So I asked a staff and found it was blueberry liquor. Its kanji also has beautiful expression.
It was cold outside, so I had it with hot water and it was good with a soft sweet flavor.

The izakaya was crowded as it was the end-of-the-year party season, but the young staff’s service was good and I was impressed. A staff even came outside the entrance to see us off. This kind of service remains in my mind as well as the dishes.

I recommend the “Rogumi”, if you look for a nice izakaya in Fukui City. (H.S)

The course starts like this way.
I went to with a friend and had our own room.

The course includes other sashimi, tempura, grilled oyster and buckwheat noodles etc.

Restaurant that you can enjoy Russian food in Fukui City “Soupya”

2017.10.29

Gourmet

As autumn deepens, I think you miss hot meals.
And I went to the Russian restaurant “Soupya” for the first time in a long time.
Probably, it is the only restaurant which serves authentic Russian dishes in Fukui City.
I think “Soupya” was located originally in a shopping street close to Katamachi and then
moved to the present residential area located on a hill. Even since then, it has been quite
some time so you might say it is a long-established restaurant.

Now I arrived at the restaurant, when I was parking my car, presumed its owner
came out and guided to park. It was quite dark already and my car has no back monitor,
so it was thoughtful.

When I looked at the menu outside the door, I decided B course. Because it includes
borscht, piroshki and gryby!

I was guided to a table beside the window and had a quiet meal looking taillights of cars go by below. And I thought that there were few restaurants such a location in Fukui.
Recently, the number of cafes along the Echizen Coast have increased but restaurants and bars along a river like in Kyoto or with the evening view, or a stream of cars as a part of view are still few.

So, how about making riverside summer terrace on the Asuwa River bank?
Or, how about inviting Starbucks at the foot of Saiwai Bridge like Sanjo-ohashi Bridge in Kyoto? Things unrelated to Russia popped into my head while eating ;) (H.S)

The exterior of the Soupya

Ornaments in the entrance hall

Inside the Soupya

There were Cheburashka, Putin and Medvedev on the rear wall of my table.

Start with borscht. Sour cream adds deep taste.

Freshly fried piroshki was soft and delicious.
Put mayonnaise or ketchup as desired.

Main gryby. You can choose fillings out of several kinds.
I chose cheese and mushrooms.

Dessert and chai. Russian tea is thought to put jam in tea but in fact, Russian people put jam in the mouth first and have tea, the owner told me.

Recommendation of izakaya in Fukui City “Kunten”

2017.10.10

Gourmet

*Izakaya means Japanese style pub
Today, I will introduce an izakaya which has a little difficult name to read. The izakaya
is located in a corner of Katamachi area, where is a restaurant district in Fukui City.
Those who have visited the Kunten say that everything is good there. So I have always
wanted to go and I finally went there the other day.

The first thing that I was surprised when I entered the izakaya was the number of
the menu written on the blackboards. It has gone beyond izakaya and I could call “Bistro where you can eat Japanese food as well” because they have many Italian and French menus. In addition, all of those are delicious. Especially the penne was much better than Italian
restaurants around here.

In fact, the woman owner cooks all dishes by herself at the izakaya and the staff is all women. As it is a small izakaya, it’s not noisy and the dishes are served at an appropriate time so I think that it’s a good one to enjoy meal and drink over conversation with friends.

It is a popular izakaya, so you should make a reservation before going. I would strongly
recommend the Kunten. It is a really good izakaya. (H.S)

The entrance

The customers sitting at the counter are thinking what they will order while looking the blackboard menu.

An appetizer

Tender and delicious seared beef with wasabi

The Gorgonzola penne is superb.

Clams and shrimps fried in garlic oil with baguette.
I had it with red wine.
