Recommendation of cake roll in Fukui City “Fruit shop Umeda”

2017.04.10

Gourmet

Speaking of delicious cake roll in Fukui, it is definitely Umeda’s fruit cake roll.
Umeda is a long-established fruit shop founded over eighty years ago, which is not
too much to say that everybody in Fukui knows the shop.
They have been keeping their business in the same place near Fukui Station.
Even other shops had changed, Umeda had always been there.
Usually, although I pass in front of the shop without thinking, I feel a sense of peace that it is always there. So I just hope the shop will never disappear, as a resident of Fukui Prefecture.

Of course, I like it very much and sometimes buy it. When I receive it at the shop, it is heavy and I feel happy. The cake roll’s dough is moist and fine, and it uses mildly sweet cream with
a lot of fresh fruit. The cross section surface of the cake roll is beautiful.

Their website includes the words of the owner as follows and I was moved to read it.
“We have changed for happiness of our customers through fruits”

The second floor is their parlor and you can eat the cake roll there.
When you come to Fukui, please drop in.
The main shop is located next to Seibu Department Store’s Fukui Store. (H.S)

Recommendation of ethnic restaurant in Fukui City “Kaori-bana”

2017.02.01

Gourmet

Sometimes I have an urge to have ethnic foods of “Kaori-bana”.
At the “Kaori-bana”, you can enjoy eating various ethnic foods such as Thai, Vietnamese,
Indian, Indonesian, Korean, Mexican, Cajun, French, Italian and Japanese-style Asian foods etc.

And the prices are quite reasonable. As it is relatively near from my house,
when I want to eat out and I often go to the “Kaori-bana” anyway.
Because they serve so many kinds of food and there must be something you want to eat.
But be careful when you order food, as its portions are big.
So you may not be able to finish it by only girls.
The staff asks you “Can you eat up all?” if you order too much, though.

It is a small restaurant which has only a counter and two tables, and it is always
crowded, so you should make a reservation by telephone even just before you go. (H.S)

Recommendation of fried skewer restaurant in Fukui City “Kiju”

2017.01.09

Gourmet

If you would like to eat fried skewers in Fukui, you should visit Kiju.
Even those who do not like deep-fried food may enjoy the fried skewers at Kiju .

Each skewer is bite-sized, the batter is thin and women will be happy with those things.
The restaurant has a relaxing atmosphere, they have many kinds of drinks and
tables at the back, so groups can visit it as well.

I usually reserve Kiju course (3,980 yen/tax excluded) and always that’s good enough for me. According to the season, they serve ten kinds of fried skewers individually at the right time,
so you are able to eat following one another at a right pace.

Please visit Kiju when you happen to come to Fukui. (H.S)

They serve seafood, meat and vegetable fried skewers using seasonal ingredients
one after another.

Even you’re full, you can enjoy a delicious side dish and rice with soup for the last.

Tasting three-star Wakasa beef that French three-star chef raves!

2016.11.24

Gourmet

The other day, I subtitled “Taste of three stars! Wakasa beef” of Fukui Prefecture’s PR TV program, which we release on this site GEN also.
Just around that time, I was given that exact three-star Wakasa beef from an acquaintance.

The differences between common Wakasa beef and three-star Wakasa beef are
that the later contains a high amount, more than 55% of olein acid which is a good-tasting ingredient of meat, and it must be under the condition that they are grown in safe and secure raising environment such low-stress raising method.

Olein acid is one of unsaturated fatty acid which is said it is healthy fat that and is the main component of olive oil.
The more olein acid it contains, the more light and mellow the after taste will be even it is Japanese beef with much marbling.

The chef, M.Emmanuel Renaut of a three-star restaurant “Flocons de Sel” in France
expressed “Its texture and color made a very strong impression. The meat fiber is soft
and moist” about the three-star Wakasa beef.

Well, so I also tasted that three-star Wakasa beef.
Since it was quite a large amount, I made “yakiniku bowl” for the first day and
“shabu-shabu” for the second day. It was really soft, and the balance of melty taste and
fat was very good. Also, I feel happy to be able to eat in relief because the fat is healthy.
