Fukui City Griffis Museum

2015.10.17

Places to visit

Fukui City Griffis Museum opened on October 10.
In 1871, William Elliot Griffis became a teacher of Fukui feudal clan and taught Western learning such as physics and chemistry to the young people.
If you look at the watercolor paintings on display that are imagined from the diary and letters, you can imagine Fukui in those days. (Y.Y)

Yokokan Garden

Places to visit

Yokokan Garden is one of my favorite places and a must-see in Fukui city. This place was owned for centuries by the powerful Matusdaira clan.  According to the interesting and funny attendant there, this place used to be a mansion for Mtsudaira clan.  He also explained that this is much better than other big and famous gardens in Japan.  Because Yokokan is not as big as any other famous ones in Japan, we get to sit back and relax instead of being rushed by other visitors and their attendants.  So this is why I like Yokokan Garden.

Squirrel monkey babies

2015.07.14

Places to visit

Today I've been to Nishiyama Zoo in Sabae city.

This zoo is well-known for its lesser pandas, but they hardly moved because it was too hot today.

Instead, Bolivian squirrel monkeys were moving around energetically.

And I found some little babies clinging tight to their mothers' back.

Old capital’s pride

2015.06.25

Places to visit

I went to Nara to see an event.
At that time, I heard that the people think that Nara is higher rank than Kyoto.
And then I wondered if people of Fukui would think about the rank.
However, I am sure that they take pride equally in the good food, the good water,
down to earth people and as a nice place to live. (H.S)

Do you know Tojinbo Cliffs?

2015.05.19

Places to visit

Do you know Tojinbo Cliffs, the sightseeing spot No. 1 of Fukui Pref? A lot of tourists from the foreign countries visit there too. I met many Chinese tourists on that day.

You might watch TV drama in Japan that a young beautiful woman sat on the cliff of Tojinbo and looked at the beautiful sun setting in the sea. What would she think about? Her boyfriend, parents or her dreams?
