Masters from the village (Katsuyama New Year's Market Part1)

At the end of the lunar calendar (old calendar), farmers in the village sell New Years' products, lucky charms, and handcrafted materials which the farmers made during the agricultural off-season. "Katsuyama New Year's market" has been held for 300 years since Bakuhan period (the Tokugawa, or Edo, period). This year the market was held on January 31st, 2016, the venue was Honmachi street and it was crowded already as it started, at 8:30 in the morning.

At a corner of the markets, a master of the village, Mr. Nakamura Kunio was weaving hats which were made of rush mats.

Besides the normal size of the hats, there were miniature ones for displaying lined up.

The handcrafted rush materials made by Mr. Matsuda was about to be auctioned as well.

Kitchen utensils such as chop boards and so on were made by carpenters using woods were lined up. There were also owls which were made of bags of winter cherries as well.
