Good old Shin-Sakae shopping street

2015.12.20

Life in Fukui

This is the picture I took last week from a building in Kitanosho street located in the center of Fukui city.

Thinking to myself that Shin-Sakae shopping area looks like this from above...

I suddenly remembered the video I took about two months ago in this shopping area.

There were installation arts by chance.

And there were also some unique stores.

With the old atmosphere of this area, it let me feel the different attraction from shopping malls in the suburbs.

A mystery hero “Happeace man” (Happy, peace and smile man)!!

2015.12.15

Life in Fukui

We went to an event, “experiencing the traditional Japanese dancing (Geisha dancing) and its live music show” in “Awara Onsen” (hot spring resorts) in Awara city, Fukui prefecture.

The event was held at “Awara Traditional entertainment center,” and we met a "mystery man" who was in a yellow costume there.

The man next to Charlotte is the local idol/hero(?!) (the man is originally from Sakai city in Fukui prefecture, that's pretty much all we know about this "mystery man").

He is working hard towards achieving world peace.

His name is “Happeace man". According to him, it is shortened for a happy, peace and smile man. He frequently appears at many places.

There are many interesting people in the world.

Green Shovels

2015.12.09

Life in Fukui

I feel that the snowy season is here again this year.
Maybe it’s because I have seen these green shovels.
In Fukui Prefecture, since ten years ago,
they have campaigned to do quick snow shoveling by each person
while waiting for a traffic light.
Man’s power cannot be underestimated, right?
I think so especially when I shovel snow.
By the way, I am curious about if these shovels will be useful or not this winter. (H.S)

The tallest castle in Japan, "Katsuyama Castle"

2015.11.30

Life in Fukui

There is “Katsuyama Castle” standing quietly and majestically under the moon light.

The official name of this powerful castle is “Katsuyama Castle Museum”.

It is 57.8meters tall and it is the tallest one in Japan.

Tada Kiyoshi, the businessman from Katsuyama, Fukui prefecture, a founder of a taxi company  had this castle built.

He also had the tallest five-storied pagoda in Japan built and the colossal Buddha of Echizen.

He made a great contribution to his home town, Katsuyama, Fukui prefecture.

If I become rich I hope to do the same for my hometown as Mr. Tada did.

Cultural Festival

2015.11.18

Life in Fukui

November is the cultural festival season in Japan.
And it was held at Fukui City central community center as well last weekend.
It is a good opportunity to show the result of daily practice once a year for
those who take cultural lessons such as flower arrangement, dressing kimono,
calligraphy and ink painting etc. at the center. (H.S)
