Hiking in the mountains in Fukui -Mt. Monju-

On June 28th, 2017, I went hiking in Mt. Monju which is located in the border between Fukui City and Sabae City in Fukui Prefecture. I took the loop trip through Daishoji course for ascending and Shiodani course for descending as it’s written in 2014 edition (the latest one) of the publication of the group of walking in the mountains in Fukui, “why don’t you go hiking in the mountains in Fukui?”. This is a popular mountain because the view from the mountain is great even the altitude of the summit of Mt. Monju is 365 meters which is not as high as other mountains. Even though it was a weekday, I saw many hikers including the local ones who hike in Mt. Monju as if it were a part of their daily routine.

First, I parked my car at the point for descending from Mt. Monju, Shihodani-cho agricultural community environment village center (on the map of the car navigation system, it says that it’s a community center). From the village center, I walked to the starting point of the mountain, Myoshinji temple in Daishoji-cho. In the publication, it says that it takes 40 minutes but I took less than 20 minutes. Even though the thermometer I saw on the way to the starting point said that it was 31 degrees Celsius, it was nice and cool because it was under the shade and there was a nice breeze in the forest. It was enjoyable to walk in the mountain listening to the sound of several kinds of bids.
