The dam is a relatively new one in Fukui Prefecture and is easy to get to. Looking closely,
it is a stylish dam which has elaborate small details such as the shapes of the roofs of its surrounding facilities and the design of the vertical stripes on the dam body. Katsuyama has a lot of snow in winter, so one the purposes of the dam is supplying snow-flowing water which is used in Katsuyama City. You can see Mt. Houonji, where there is one of the biggest ski resorts in western Japan, “SKI JAM Katsuyama”, at the back of the dam.
The nameplate represents the design of the dam.
The two overflow emergency spillways are built side by side and the two regular spillway slide gates are built vertically in the center. The “face” looks pretty sharp.
In the upstream of the dam lake, there is a sand storage dam, which prevents
earth and sand flowing into the dam lake and also is used as a recreation spot.
