The New Year’s first hammer forging in old style at TAKEFU KNIFE VILLAGE is annually held at midnight on January 1st, 2020. The TAKEFU KNIFE VILLAGE is a communal cutlery craft studio that you can also observe. When they strike cutlery with hammers and it sparks, cameras clicked and flashed because there was a photography contest.

Smithies in ancient style costumes harden cutlery by a traditional technique used in the past. The smith sitting by the fire is the master, and two smithies standing and hammering are called partners.

Members of the idle group SAKU LIGHT, which acts to support Fukui’s traditional crafts were there. They said that they were going to visit Chiyozuru Shrine, which enshrines the patriarch of Echizen cutlery, Okamoto Otaki Shrine, which enshrines the god of paper, Shikishima Shrine and Hachiman Shrine, which are ones for lacquerware after this. They deserve to be an idle group that supports Fukui’s traditional crafts.
